N.B. Workshops will be presented 3 times.  Topics B to E have space limited to 20-25 persons per session.

Topic A - Airway: limit 12 persons per session.  Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.  When completing the registration form, indicate your choices in order of preference from 1 to 5.


WORKSHOP TOPICS

A.    The Difficult Airway - Application of New Technology
             Paul Connelly, MD / Patrick Sullivan , MD
             Location:Salon MacDonald (Mezzanine)

A hands-on worshop with training to use new airway aids such as the intubating LMA, the lighted stylet, the Bullard laryngoscope.  Case scenarios for discussion as well. (Note limit: 4 stations x 3 persons = 12)


B.    Obstetrical Anesthesia: Pearls and Pitfalls

Review: current techniques of ambulatory anesthesia for obstetrics; epidural analgesia and low MW heparin; the use of nitrates in uterine hyperstimulation


C.    Malignant Hyperthermia
             Gordon Reid, MD
             Location:Salon L’Orangerie (Mezzanine)

Review changing concepts of MH etiology and management.


D.    ACLS Update
             Gregory Murphy, MD
             Location: Drawing Room (AM Lecture Room)

To become familiar with the new ACLS protocols and understand the differences from previous protocols; gain some understanding of how the changes have come about.


E.    Continuous Peripheral Nerve Block Catheters

Review indications for continuous peripheral nerve blockade; review relevant pertinent anatomy; examine a variety of equipment essentials for continuous plexus catheters.

Participate in an exciting new CME project!  Each registrant will run through a case scenario in the simulator - a complete mock-up of an OR.  Typically a case lasts 20 minutes, followed by a discussion of case objectives.  We try to make this experience enjoyable!  (Max. 4 registrants)
