AFTERNOON WORKSHOPS

N.B. Topics A to E will be presented 3 times. Topics B to E have space limited to 20-25 persons per session. Topic A - Airway: limit 12 persons per session. Simulator Topic F has only 2 sessions - #1 is limited to 12 persons; #2 is a special private session for 3 persons only.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. When completing the registration form, indicate your choices in order of preference from 1 to 6.


WORKSHOP TOPICS

A.    The Difficult Airway - Application of New Technology
           Edward Crosby, MD / Paul Connelly, MD

Location:Salon MacDonald (Mezzanine)

A hands-on worshop with training to use new airway aids such as the intubating LMA, the lighted stylet, the Bullard laryngoscope.  Case scenarios for discussion as well.
(Note limit: 4 stations x 3 persons = 12)

B.    Neuroanesthesia Problems in Everyday Practice

Location: Drawing Room (AM Lecture Room)

Practical solutions for challenging situations - applicable to university and community hospitals.

C.    Dilemmas in the PACU
        
Nadira Naraine, MD / Anne Wong, MD

Location: Salon L'Orangerie (Mezzanine)

Case scenarios will be discussed to illustrate evidence-based approaches to common PACU problems.

D.    Invasive Cardiovascular Monitors - Beyond the Numbers

Invasive cardiovascular monitors provide a lot of clinical information which cannot be interpreted by looking at numbers only. The appropriate detection of that information is necessary for optimal management of patients with cardiac disease. Case scenarios will highlight.

E.    Acute Pain Management in Chronic Pain Patients

Postoperative pain control in the patient who is narcotic tolerant; pre-emptive analgesia; multi-modal analgesic strategies - Case scenarios will illustrate.

F.    Anaesthesia Simulator

See how simulation can enhance teaching and crisis management. Session #1 - interactive audience participation with U of O staff in the "hot-seat". Session #2 - private hands-on simulation experience for 3 persons. Take your pick but pick early!
