AnesthesiaWinterlude 2000 Symposium has been planned as a one-day conference
which will appeal to both academic and community-based anaesthetists. This year the Morning Session will feature
lectures which look at what the future may bring to Anesthesia. The year 2000 will see the first human placement
of the artificial heart and anesthetists will be part of the team. Our gas machines and monitors have evolved into
workstations. What will happen to our equipment over the next decade? Are there completely new and different modalities
for providing anesthesia waiting to be developed? What is nanotechnology and how could it help anesthesia?
The Afternoon offers Small-Group Sessions with 6 interesting topics from which one may chose
three to attend. The format will use clinical case scenarios to promote group discussion. Once again there will
be sessions at the U of O Patient Care Simulator. As last year, simulated case scenarios will be presented for
case discussion. As well, a special private session for 3 adventurous persons will be available.
After the Symposium, registrants may wish to participate in some of the activities planned for
the weekend during Ottawa's Winterlude Carnival.
